Getting Here
How to reach Premuda
Premuda is reached by sea. There are two public connections — a fast passenger catamaran from Zadar and a car ferry that links Zadar (Gaženica) with Mali Lošinj via the neighbouring islands, calling at Premuda. If you have your own boat, you can come straight over.
Arrival Guide — Car, Tolls & Vignettes
Driving to the Adriatic isn't strictly necessary — depending on your route it's often more relaxed to take the train or fly to Zadar and continue by passenger ferry. But if you do drive through Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, know the tolls: always buy vignettes in advance from the official provider, and at toll stations pay contactless by card rather than cash.
- →No car needed: there is free parking in Zadar — from there simply continue to the island on the passenger ferry (catamaran).
- →Coming by car: the car ferry (line 401) runs from Zadar (Gaženica terminal) and also from Mali Lošinj — from the north via the shuttle ferry to Cres. Always check the timetable in advance.
- →Allow plenty of buffer time: traffic jams are unpredictable. Better to be at the harbour well early than to miss the ferry.
- →Tip: a day trip in Zadar is well worth it — explore the old town, the Sea Organ, restaurants and sights before heading to the island.
Austria
Buy the vignette in advance from the official ASFINAG shop — cheaper than resellers and no stop at the border. For route tolls (e.g. the Tauern and Karawanken tunnels) an online account with the digital toll (Videomaut) pays off: register your number plate once and simply drive through — the camera reads the plate automatically. At toll stations, choose card payment; the cash lanes tend to have the heaviest traffic.
- ·Buy the vignette only from the official ASFINAG shop
- ·Digital toll: online account + number plate → just drive through
- ·Prefer card payment at toll stations (shorter queues)
Slovenia
Slovenia uses an electronic vignette (e-vignette) — no more sticker. Buy it in advance from the official DARS shop; your number plate is registered, then you simply drive through. Beware of unofficial resellers charging a hefty markup.
- ·Electronic e-vignette — buy in advance from the official DARS shop
- ·Number plate is registered, no sticker
- ·Watch out for unofficial third-party sites
Croatia
Croatia charges distance-based tolls at toll stations — there is no vignette. An electronic toll box (ENC) is available, but rarely worth it financially for a single holiday trip. Easiest is to pay contactless by card at the barrier — those lanes tend to have the least traffic.
- ·Distance-based toll at stations — no vignette needed
- ·ENC toll box exists, but seldom worth it financially
- ·Pay contactless by card — shortest wait
Only buy vignettes from the official providers linked above. Many look-alike sites resell the same vignette with a surcharge.

Car ferry from Zadar or Mali Lošinj
Jadrolinija · line 401
The car ferry (line 401) links Zadar (Gaženica terminal) via Ist, Olib and Silba with Premuda and on to Mali Lošinj — so you can board at either end.
